Position Description
Editor, Family Travel Site
The Independent Traveler, Inc., is publisher of travel Web sites including Cruise Critic, the largest cruise site of its kind, reaching over five million unique visitors each year. The Independent Traveler, Inc. is a subsidiary of TripAdvisor, the largest travel community in the world and an operating company of Expedia, Inc. We are looking for an experienced travel web site editor for our new family travel site that has recently launched.
Responsibilities include:
• Creating a detailed editorial plan,
• Researching, writing, editing family travel articles
• Developing interactive web based family travel content.
• Working with PR firms for family resorts and arrange reviews of those resorts,
• Assigning destination articles and hotel reviews to freelance writers and in-house staff
• Supervising all freelancers conduct first edit to approve freelancer copy
• Working with and supervise other in-house editorial staff as needed to insure timely ad accurate publication of all content.
• Reading and responding to editor emails
• Writing and updating home page and newsletter promotions
• Working with PR specialist to brainstorm press release and respond to media requests
• Participating in press interviews as arranged by PR specialist
• Staying abreast of trends in family travel and what competitor sites are doing
Job Location: Pennington, NJ (near Princeton)
Hiring requirements:
•Experienced Web site editor with substantive experience in developing, researching, editing, writing and posting web content
•Excellent command of English language, grammar, punctuation and spelling
•Strong writing, copy editing and proofing editorial skills for the Web, with a firm grasp of grammar and editorial style guidelines.
•Ability to write quickly, accurately and intelligently
•Excellent story editing and conceptualizing skills
•Knowledge of HTML, and web and graphics applications; photoshop experience a plus
•Must have proven ability to work independently meet deadlines, and have a track record of exercising good judgment in the evaluation of worthwhile projects
•Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
•Excellent organizational skills and methodical attention to detail
•Strong interpersonal skills and a strong personal drive for quality
•Enjoy working independently and as a member of a collaborative web team
•Experience supervising and leading an editorial team
•Travel experience with kids and love of travel
•College degree required; journalism, online media or related major preferred
•5-7 years related experience
